FESTIVE TUNE: Gerrard Dupe (l) and Stephen Dombromski from the compass project in Newport who have released a single called 'Christmas is Here'

TWO disabled friends from Newport are joining such musical greats as Slade and Sir Paul MacCartney and releasing their very own Christmas single.

Steve Dombromski and Gerard Dupe will officially launch their song "Christmas is Here" on Friday, Nov 30.

The musical duo met each other 15 years ago through the charity Scope and now attend the Compass centre in George Street, Newport every week.

Both suffer from mobility problems and Gerard is visually impaired.

It was at the centre that they wrote and recorded the festive number with the help of their music tutor Dave Chapman.

The song is available for download from www.amazingtunes.com/users/stevegerard and can be heard on the Argus website.

All proceeds from the song, which costs 79p, will go towards the running of the centre.

Mr Chapman said: "They decided to write the song about two months ago and recorded it last month.

"They had been producing their own music in the department but wanted to do something different.

"I wrote the backing music that they wanted and they sang.

    "I think it's a really great achievement.

"There is a message in the song that not everyone is fortunate at Christmas, which they want to put across."

Both Mr Dombromski and Mr Dupe like to listen to pop music and are very proud of the finished piece, their tutor said.

Compass is managed by Solas Cymru, a housing organisation which helps people learn and develop new skills through the arts.

Anyone can attend, students can take part in music, art, performance, job clubs and employment training.

The friends have their own website to promote the song on the myspace social networking site.
