Teen singer's CD for cancer friend
 |
| CHARITY DISC: Demi Holborn's CD in aid of cancer patient Alun Hancock's treatment costs |
A GWENT teenager is leading the way as a huge fundraising drive is undertaken to help raise money to pay for a cancer patient's treatment.
Demi Holborn, 15, from Pontypool, is selling a two-track CD she has recorded and has already raised more than £200 for family friend Alun Hancock.
You can hear the tracks by clicking the links below.
Mr Hancock, 40, of Pontnewynydd, Pontypool, who suffers from kidney cancer, says the only chance of prolonging his life is the drug Sutent.
Torfaen Local Health Board has decided not to prescribe the treatment for free, so Mr Hancock is funding his own medication, at £100 a pill. He takes up to three a day.
Since starting Sutent in September, he knew he would eventually be faced with a huge bill, which could reach £20,000.
Demi, who has recorded covers of Out Here On My Own and Forget Me Not, said: "As soon as I heard Alun would have to pay, I wanted to help.
"I've known Alun years. He's a really close family friend."
But the St Alban's RC school pupil is just one of many who are helping.
Mr Hancock's wife Frances said: "Everyone's been amazing. There are too many people to mention by name but so many have held fundraising events, raffles and collections. It really lifts our spirits."
Mr Hancock added: "I can't thank people enough."
