    Man pulled from river

    A MAN was pulled from the River Usk in Newport earlier today.

    Fire crews carried out the rescue near the George Street Bridge, before the man, understood to be in his mid 40s, was transported to the Royal Gwent Hospital.

    The incident happened shortly before 3pm and crews from Malpas, Maindee, Duffryn, Cwmbran and Barry all attended.

    A spokesman for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said the man was thought to have suffered possible spinal injuries.
