    Ex-editor is in business

Former South Wales Argus business editor David Barnes has taken his own advice and set up in business.

Barnes, aged 50, of Thornwell, Chepstow, moved into public relations seven years ago after 15 years with the Argus, the last eight of which he spent heading the business desk.

Now the father of three boys, who's wife Jo is magazine's editor at the Argus, has started up his own PR consultancy, DB Public Relations after seven years with Cardiff-based Working Word PR.

The former Western Daily Press and Free Press Series journalist said: "I've been writing about people starting up in business, both when I was at the Argus and subsequently in PR, extolling the benefits of doing your own thing so I thought it about time I took a bit of my own advice.

"Newport is a great place in terms of its location, business links and economic potential and it's also where my mum and dad, Hugh and Joan, ran a very successful business, Barrack Hill Stores, for many years. I feel right at home in this vibrant, city of rejuvenation."

DBPR will be based at Newport's premier commercial district Gold Tops.
