Special needs girl has bike stolen

A SIX-YEAR-OLD girl with special needs is devastated after yobs stole her bike as she played in her garden.

Courtney Brown, 6, of Pepys Grove, Gaer, was playing in her garden on Bank Holiday Sunday at around 7pm, when a group of six youths aged around 14 or 15 turned up.

Her mum Sarah told the Argus: "She ran into the house saying these boys were trying to steal her and her sister's bikes."

Ms Brown, a single mum-of-four, was initially afraid to go outside alone.

But when she did, she saw the youths had jumped on her elder daughter Whitney's bike, breaking it, and one was riding away on Courtenay's mountain bike.

Courtney, who has just started at Monnow Way special school, was left inconsolable about the loss of her bike.

Ms Brown said: "Courtney has special needs and she just doesn't understand why she hasn't got a bike now. It's really upset and frightened her."

She has since been able to get Whitney's bike mended but cannot stretch to buying a brand new bike to replace the stolen one.

Ms Brown said the youths ran and cycled off towards Ben Jonson Way towards the Spar.

Newport police are appealing for any witnesses or people with information to contact them immediately on 01633 838111.

The bike, which is still missing, was a silver and purple mountain bike, with a slight tear on the seat.

So sad. I know how she feels. I've lost 11 bikes in 3 years, some I'm still paying for, some with as many as 3 locks. My son's special needs bike was amongst them. Some I've found later, trashed for the sake of stealing a tyre or a pedal! The little maggots in the duffryn/maesglas/ gaer areas learn to bump locks and terrorise at the bottle. What chance do we stand? The Police don't care.

Sorry for being so ignorant but what is a "special needs bike"?

There is a core of evil kids on The Gaer all of whom are known to the authorities.
Wheel them in and sort this out please you "Boys in Blue"!

Message to Boyo - if you read the above properly you wouldn't have to ask such an assinine question and obviously if there were such a thing as a special needs bike, you wouldn't be able to understand if it was explained to you anyway.

Mine was a large, heavily built three wheeler. It was geared very low, and was able to be pedalled both backwards and forwards. I think Whitney's bike was of the more usual type. Don't be afraid to ask, it's the way we learn.

Thanks very much for your helpful answer sherryp.
As for the answer from lisaj why are you being such a bi*ch, it seems as if nobody can ask a question on this site without you having a go at them. Oh, and I'm very sorry to hear that your fourth marriage has failed, and your only 28, was it your husbands fault again?

Leave it up to a group of thieving, light-fingered morons who are old enough to know better to go and steal a 6 year olds' bike. It makes me sick!!
