Mountain Air Inn, Tredegar

FOR traditional home-cooked meals, look no further than the Mountain Air Inn.

As you walk through the doors into the newly-refurbished dining area, you're met my the friendly chatty staff, ready and waiting to seat you, bring over your drinks and issue you with a menu.

As we sat down, we were surrounded by the hum of fellow diners in the relaxing and informal restaurant.

While looking through their extensive menu, I was spoilt for choice in what to order.

There was literally something for everyone with a great choice for vegetarians and children's portions that were not just the usual processed animal shaped meat treats.

To start I picked the trusty soup of the day - tomato, as did my guest (2.50) and was not disappointed - very filling thought, generous portions for a starter.

For the main course I opted for steak and chips (7.99) - cooked to perfection and accompanied with onion rings, mushrooms, vegetables and salad.

To be honest, I was't really expecting a lot for such a small price, but I was pleasantly surprised.

My friend had the special Mountain Air chicken (8.49) who assured me was absolutely delicious and almost too much to finish - for a pregnant woman who's eating for two, that's saying something!

For dessert we shared apple pie and cream (3.50) - piping hot and the perfect end to a lovely meal.

I can honestly say it was one of the best pub meals I've had ages.

Great for all the family, an inviting atmosphere and outstanding value - one to make a mental note of.

Meal with drinks - £29.48.
