    Walkers think pink

CHARITY walkers in Gwent are gearing up to take part in next weekend's annual canal walk in aid of breast cancer research.

The In the Pink walk is taking place on May 18, with around 1,300 walkers due to take part.

Now in its seventh year, walkers have choice of four courses, ranging from five miles to 20 miles, and will all meet up at the finish in Llangynidr.

Organiser Liz Sullivan,62, said: "It's incredible, people who've never met each other are best friends, everybody is jolly, chatting to everybody and singing."

It is hoped the day will raise £100,000, the cost of a research programme.

A single has also been made this year and will be on sale at the walk.

"It will happen", written and sung by Sally-Ann Evans, is a gospel-style track and was written after a group were talking at Velindre hospital about a potential cure for breast cancer and a nearby oncologist said "It will happen."

The track will also be performed live at the event.

Mrs Sullivan, owner of a beauty salon in Ebbw Vale, has so far raised £300 in personal sponsorship.

She said: "I think it's going to be brilliant, all the people who aren't coming are going to be kicking themselves."
